When I first envisioned LAWTON, I dreamt of creating garments that would stand the test of time—pieces that would honour traditional craftsmanship while redefining it with a modern twist. Since launching in 2022, LAWTON has become known for its bespoke suits, each meticulously designed with a blend of old Hollywood glamour and the irreverent edge of 1970s rock 'n' roll. But a well-curated wardrobe doesn’t end with a suit. It begins, quite literally, with the layer closest to the skin: the shirt.

I am proud to introduce our inaugural made-to-order shirt collection. This collection is the culmination of two years of exploration, design, and collaboration with some of the finest artisans. The goal was simple: to create shirts that not only complement our bespoke suits but also stand as sartorial statements in their own right.

A shirt is often one of the first garments we slip into in the morning and the last we take off at night. At LAWTON, we’ve always believed that even the most utilitarian pieces should exude artistry and purpose. The LAWTON shirt collection, available for both HIM and HER, reimagines the shirt in ways that are both timeless and modern. Each shirt is carefully designed to reflect the LAWTON aesthetic—a blend of historical charm and contemporary polish, offering a fresh take on this essential wardrobe piece.

Creating the Perfect Shirt

Designing the shirt was a personal endeavour for me. As someone who has often struggled to find shirts with strong, flattering collars—especially for women—I knew I wanted to create shirts that addressed this gap in the market. A great collar can transform an outfit, giving it structure and poise, so I collaborated with skilled artisans to make this possible.

The collection features two distinct collar designs that reflect LAWTON’s bold yet timeless aesthetic:

The Long Point Collar: Inspired by the glamour of the 1930s spearpoint and the boldness of the 1970s dagger collar, this daring collar measures a dramatic 10.7cm in length with a 3.8cm stand. It’s for those who embrace sartorial confidence. Wear it fastened with a tie for a power look, unbuttoned with a suit for a laid-back edge, or simply pair it with high-waisted trousers or jeans for a touch of modern elegance.

The Open Collar: For a more relaxed yet refined look, the open collar channels icons like Al Pacino and Katharine Hepburn. Featuring a 7.2cm collar point on a 3.5cm stand, this style creates a flattering V-neckline that works effortlessly for both him and her. Crafted from crisp cotton, summer-weight linen and seersucker, it brings a sense of leisure to any occasion, perfect for layering with suiting or knitwear for year-round versatility.

Craftsmanship in Every Detail

At LAWTON, simplicity is seen as the ultimate sophistication. The shirts are meticulously handcrafted by German artisans, taking between 8 to 10 weeks to complete. This commitment to quality is evident in every stitch and seam, from the floating canvassing that shapes the collars to the detailed construction that ensures durability.

Each shirt is adorned with opulent mother-of-pearl buttons, lily-stitched with a shank for added strength, ensuring they lay flat against the fabric. With a stitch density of 7 stitches per centimetre, these shirts showcase an exceptional level of craftsmanship, enhancing both durability and elegance. LAWTON’s signature 3mm edge stitch provides a refined finish, adding a sophisticated touch to every piece.

Curating the Cloth

The fabrics selected for this collection reflect LAWTON’s commitment to quality, versatility, and timeless elegance. Each material has been carefully curated to offer both luxurious texture and durability:

  • White Twill: The quintessential classic, this 120/2 weave cotton twill offers a soft yet durable finish. Its subtle diagonal rib texture provides added strength while remaining breathable, making it ideal for both collar styles.

  • Rouge Noir Cotton Poplin: This bespoke shade was perfected over six months with Swiss fabric producers, balancing blue and yellow undertones to achieve a deep, dramatic red. It’s a bold choice for those looking to add a pop of colour to their wardrobe.

  • Black Cotton Poplin: At LAWTON, black is always synonymous with elegance. This rich, crisp fabric is perfect for those who appreciate a monochromatic sensibility.

  • Seersucker and Linen: These lightweight, breathable fabrics are perfect for summer. Available in the Open Collar Shirt, they offer texture and sophistication, evoking the timeless appeal of old Hollywood cinema.
